Just a little update on how things are going around here!

InstagramCharles is every bit a Basset Hound these days. He’s warm, he sleeps all day, he refuses to do anything for himself, and he smells like Fritos.

I absolutely adore him.

InstagramMy daughter on the right up there has just finished submitting her first college application. The colors for the school are maroon and white. The colors for the next school she’ll apply to are orange and black. The colors for any other school she’s applying to are undecided as of yet, because she is still trying to determine her other choices.

The color of my heart is weepy.

But in a good, I-understand-her-future-has-to-happen-sometime way.

At least it’s good most of the time.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

InstagramMy younger daughter, on the other hand, went to church camp this summer! Did you know at church camp it’s difficult to tell what decade you’re in?

Ahhhh. It’s a wonderful thing.

InstagramShortly after I picked up my daughter from camp, we started shooting more episodes of my Food Network show. I finally feel like I can sorta kinda do this thing now—meaning, I no longer feel like a desperate, redheaded deer in the headlights whenever the cameras start rolling.

Oh, I still can hardly watch myself without covering my eyes. But at least the filming part has gotten easier.

We shoot more shows in October! Be sure to let me know what kind of recipes (or other things!) you’d like to see on the show. Would you like to see me cooking with other people? Would you like to see other people cooking without me? (Ha.) Would you like to seem me wear more solid colors instead of prints? (I don’t think I can do that.) Would you like to see more ranching and less cooking? More horses and less cattle? More cats and less dogs? More sweets? More quick meals? More slow-cooked meals? Less eyeliner?

I love knowing what you like to see, so if you watch the show, feel free to let me know!

(Unless it’s solid colors. Then I’m not sure I can make any promises.)

gondola3The day after I finished shooting—literally, twelve hours after we wrapped (as in, “That’s a wrap!”)—my kids and I drove to Colorado.

FitBitThis is the last day of my shoot. Clearly, I was standing in the same spot cooking all day!

FitBitThis was the day I drove to Colorado. Clearly, I was in the car all day!

FitBitThis was our first full day in Vail. Ahhh. That’s more like it!

Except for the sleeping part.

Did you know it’s hard to sleep during the first week you’re in the mountains? It’s one of those things they never tell you.

FitBitThis was the day Missy, the kids, and I hiked up the mountain and I almost needed to be administered oxygen.

Hike DownAnd this was the day the father of my children and I hiked down the mountain together!

Also known as the day before I woke up and found that I could barely move.

Also known as two days before I woke up and found that I couldn’t move at all.

But at least my beloved and I spent some quality time together!

badgeAnd, most importantly (heh heh), at least I earned a 20,000 steps FitBit badge!

Love, Weepiness, Muscle Soreness, and Frito Smells,
